We finally got our Survival Pack and I am excited about testing the pack out and seeing if there is truly suck a thing as a Survival Pack that works! I went through and inventoried the pack to see how safe it would actually be to get up in the mountains with. The Space Sleeping Bag substitute for the typical Space Blanket is pretty nice but made of the same material and could make you sweat too much in the cold weather. I am a little skeptical about that but we will have to test the blanket out anyway because that is what we do.
There is plenty of drinking water to last 72 hours which is what the pack manufacturers boast as the time limit for survival. The manufacturer states that within 72 hours you should be rescued and if you are not then you should have enough in the pack to keep yourself alive until help arrives or until you find civilization. There is a food supply that appears to be good for about 9 meals. Three days Three meals a day. Not too bad. I am a little concerned that the food rations will go bad though and there is no way to reseal the package for transport if you are on the move. Maybe they expect you to sit still until you are rescued. In some cases this could be wise but I would want to keep on the move toward help if at all possible. Military training teaches you that if you know a general direction toward help then head that way … quietly. If you know there is no enemy then run full speed.
I will go out on a limb here and say that if we can get this Survival Pack Test going in about three weeks from now we should be in good shape as far as weather and mountain conditions. Either way I am not too terribly worried about the route that we will be taking. What we are going to do is head from one side of the mountain to the other where there is a lodge and warm coffee. It should only take a few hours to go the route but since we are testing the pack we are going to make it last a few days. explore a little into different Survival Situations and Emergency Preparation.
Some Survival Packs
We are using the “One Person EMERGENCY Survival DISASTER KIT New Backpack” which is the red pack. We think that for the price this is going to be the most effective pack available. It’s contents and price made it the worthy test subject.
